Driving Directions
Skyline Gate is located off of Hwy. 13. This highway is accessible via I-580 and Hwy. 24.
From I-580 or Oakland, take Hwy. 13 North. Exit at Park Street.Turn left at Mountain Blvd.
Turn right on Snake Rd. Continue straight onto Shepard Canyon Rd. Turn right on Skyline
Blvd., and drive straight to the Skyline Gate parking lot on the left.
From Berkeley or Hwy. 24, take Hwy. 13 South. Exit at Moraga Ave/Montclair District. Moraga Ave. becomes Mountain Blvd. Turn left on Snake Rd. Continue straight onto Shepard Canyon Rd. Turn right on Skyline Blvd., and drive straight to the Skyline Gate parking lot on the left.
Trail Directions
Taking East Ridge Trail from Skyline Gate, turn left after about 0.16 miles onto the Skyline National Recreation Trail (also the trail to Huclkeberry Botanical Preserve). Skyline Trail indicators are at all intersections as of this writing. The trail crosses Pinehurst Rd. near the intersection with Skyline Blvd. and continues directly on the other side. Turn right on most trail intersections in the Huckleberry Preserve until you hit a stone culvert across the trail. Turn left at the intersection just after the culvert and start climbing to Sibley Volcanic Preserve. There are many options for distance. Doing Round Top Loop at Sibley as a keyhole run is about 7 miles. You can continue straight through Sibley on Skyline Trail toward Tilden Park. Turning at the gate at the first road after Sibley is around 8 miles. Fish Ranch Road (the second street crossing) is 10 miles round trip. Lomas Contadas Rd. (the steam train parking lot) is 12.7 miles total. Bathrooms at the start, the steam trains, and Sibley parking lot. Water at the start and Sibley parking lot.
