The Pacific Striders are looking for men and women to run on our Road, Cross Country and Ultra racing teams. You don't have to be fast, but you must be a member of the club and PAUSATF. If you enjoy running races, we could possibly use you to fill out a scoring team.
The Striders compete in men's Open (18-39), Masters (40-49), Seniors (50-59) and Super Seniors (60-69) divisions. Our women compete in Open and Masters. We try to enter teams in every race. Teams consist of between 3 and 5 people, but any number can run; we just score the fastest ones. We sometimes even score "B" teams if we have extra scoring members.
What if I am too slow? Will I hurt the team?
There is now way you can be too slow! Since we score the fastest people first, extra runners can only help our ability to fill out teams. There have been several instances in the Grand Prix where a team just needed to get 5 people across the finish line to place well and even win money! At the 2005 NorCal 10 Miler, the Open Men's division offered prize money to the top 3 teams. Only two teams had 5 men (we had 4!). If we had just one more guy WALK across the line we would have taken 3rd and won a little cash.
How fast do I have to be to score on a team?
Generally it depends on which age-division and which type of race. Here is a current status of our age-group teams:
OPEN MEN - We can use any help we can get right now. We have a few solid runners but are always needing a couple more to fill out a team.
MASTERS MEN (40-49) - This is our strongest team at the time. Good depth but we could always use more. The slower masters now drop down to fill out the open team.
SENIOR MEN (50-59) - We are usually pretty strong here too. With only 4 required to complete a team we tend to score often. We could use more depth however.
SUPER-SENIOR MEN (60+) - We have a few very fast supers and when we get 3 at a race we should win. However, our depth is lacking and extra over-60 men would be a great asset.
WOMEN - We are hoping to score some MASTERS women's teams this year in the short GP (10K and under). We have a couple women who raplan to race many of the shorter races, but we need a 3rd person, even for a race or two! We could use any women runners who want to join! We almost guarantee you will be on a team!
What are the advantages of racing with the Pacific Striders?
We offer a great support system for runners with a little experience at racing. Our Thursday track sessions can get you in speed shape, while our Sunday long runs can help you get in miles. We also offer those who race big discounts (40% off) on Nike shoes and apparel, as well as Powerbars and other PowerFoods products for free! We try to ride-share to many races, and share rooms for the "away" races. You also get to be seen in the world's cooled racing singlet, which is almost guaranteed to take a couple seconds off your time!
What races have the Striders run in the past, and how did they do?
Check out the PAUSATF Results pages, and look under the TEAM RESULTS to see who ran on each team. Notice that we often failed to have a full team in many division due to lack of runners! To see how fast (or slow) we run, check out our RESULTS section on this site.
