6/14/03 - Strider Shine and Shriners -
The Striders grabbed second place in the masters mens division behind the fine running of Nestor Ayala, who broke the club record by 17 seconds with a 25:59, good for 3rd place. New-member Alan Dehlinger also got under the old record with a time of 26:12. Thom Trimble, Jeff Teeters and Fletcher Lesley completed the team.

The Seniors team was led by Fred Martin who recorded a 30:00 (8th Senior), to lead the team to a 3rd place finish. Brendan O'Neil, Jim Flanigan and Bill Brusher completed that team

5/26/03 - Pac Striders Storm Pac Sun - A club record 26 Striders showed up for the Pacific Sun 10K looking for either a fast time, or a snazzy new singlet.  The debut of the new Pacific Striders racing singlet received a good showing as most of those members who ran, modeled the new multi-colored attire. The club scored not only a full Masters, Seniors and Open team, but had enough depth to score "B" teams in both Open and Seniors. The masters placed 2nd while the seniors were 3rd. Open team place TBD.

Nestor Ayala led the masters team to 2nd place with a blazing 33:17. Len Goldman outhoofed Joe Schieffer and Fred Martin to lead the seniors, while BZ Churchman ran as the sole Strider women.

John Lehman clocks his masters PR with a 16:54
5/11/03 - Zippy 5K: Strider Women Are Back! - For the first time since the Millenathon Half Marathon in January 2000, the Striders women are back on the roads! BZ Churchman led the team with a 13th place finish in the masters division. Valery Fahey (22:25) and Malia Dinell (22:29, 20M) were close behind, while Jessica Rider and Julianne Warner completed the team.
While the Masters and Seniors men fielded their usual competitive teams, we were also able to patch together a pretty respectable Open Mens squad too - even with some OPEN men! Chris Becker (17:28) and Mike Machiorlatti (18:08) made their debut with the Pacific Striders in leading the open squad. Top masters for the club were Thom Trimble (7th) and John Lehman (13th). Len Goldman (7th) and Fred Martin (11th) were the clubs top seniors. (PS Times) (Full Results)

Mike Maguire pushes the trail portion of the race.
4/27/03 - Pacific Striders Do Well at Big Sur 5K - With pretty much the same team that competed at the HP 10K (Mike Maguire replacing John Lehman as #5 man), the Striders moved a step higher on the finish platform, placing second in the masters division. Outrunning an understaffed Hoys team the Striders nabbed 9 points for second place behind the powerhouse Aggie squad. Thom Trimble finished as 4th master behind the top three Ags. The PS Senior squad may have squeezed out 3rd place in their division, led by Brendan O'Neill (Full Story)

Strider #6 man - Tim Keenan- on recovery trail, nips under 6 minute pace.

Criag Whichard sprints to Finish

4/13/03 - Injuries Hamper Striders at HP 10K - While the weather cooperated for the HP 10K, some of the Pacific Striders' bodies did not. Injuries during the race kept the Pacific Striders from any hopes of grabbing second place in the masters division in this race. Gerry Valverde bagged the race at around 3 miles after straining his hamstring, while Chatham Ross pulled out with severe back problems at about the same point. Fortunately we had enough reserves to fill out the 40-49 squad and hold onto 3rd place. The Seniors team again fielded a strong foursome but so did Hoys and WVJS, as we settled for third once again.

3/23/03 - Striders Take Silver and Bronze at 12K - Despite bringing a full slate of club runners, EBS/WVTC had to settle for second in the Masters and third in the Seniors divisions. Our 40+ guys scored three men in the 41s, led by Thom Trimble in 41:09, but that was not enough as they were nipped by the Hoys Boys by less than a minute. The Seniors ran their best team of the year, led by Joe Schieffer's pending-club-record 44:12, but a surprising WVJS team whooped both us and the Hoys seniors. Our senior depth allowed us to score not only a "B" team but we also pieced together a pretty respectable Open team. EBS/WVTC Times

03/08/03 - Masters Settle for Second - The EBS/WVTC Masters team appeared to have the masters' team title in hand, but selected senior drop-downs from the rival Hoys team pushed the BAMMERS down to the second spot. The Seniors team was fortunate enough to round up three guys to get on the board and finish in 3rd place behind the Chips who had the only 4-man team, and Hoys who also had only 3 men after dropping down two to the masters team. 1/12/2003 - BAMMERS Place Second Twice at Cal 10 - The club got off to a fast start on the 2003 Road Grand Prix with two very solid teams. The Masters team edged Hoys for 2nd with the addition of Nestor Ayala as our new lead man. The Seniors brought out their best, but still couldn't match the talent of the Hoys 50+ guys. EBS/WVTC even fielded a very respectable Open Men's team with drop down masters and seniors which place a remarkable 4th, out of 7 teams. EBS/WVTC Times
